meaningful, love filled newborn photography

Em did a newborn session with us & I highly, highly recommend her. From the moment I contacted her to get some extra information before booking in our session, to getting our absolutely beautiful photos back; she was fantastic!
I wouldnāt hesitate to recommend her services.

meaningful, love filled newborn photography
Yarra Valley & Melbourne Newborn Photography
honest and artful photography for sentimental souls

Newborns bring a whole lot of love and chaos into the world with them. Those first days, weeks and months blend together in a whirl of absolute bliss, exhaustion and ever changing demands before eventually slipping away into the depth of our memories. But there’s so much beauty in this time worth remembering.
As a Melbourne newborn photographer I strive to capture the real connections, emotions and details of this wonderful and fleeting stage of your lives. My sessions are relaxed and baby led, meaning there is no pressure and we just allow your baby to be just that, a baby. You get an hour or so of cuddling your baby and then you get a bunch of photos to help you remember all the little details that make this time so magic!Ā

so, how does
it work?
1.
The first step is just to look around, check out my work and pricing and make sure I’m a good fit for you. Then when you’re ready get in touch and let me know you’re ready to book. I’ll send you a link to my booking calendar where you can see my availability and select a date. To secure the date you’ll pay the session fee which is also a non-refundable retainer and sign the session contract.

2.
Once your session is booked I’ll be in touch with a session guide to help you prepare for our session. It includes tips and ideas on what to wear, how to prepare your home and make sure your kids and hubby are ready to be in front of the camera. Then we wait for baby! Once your little one arrives you just get in touch with me and we finalise a date and time for our session. Then it’s session time!Ā

When should I book a newborn session?
I highly recommend getting in touch early for newborn sessions, generally in your second trimester is a good time to reach out to me. When you book I pop you in my calendar under your due date. Obviously due dates are *ahem* more like guess dates, so the only thing I use this for is a vague guide on how many sessions I’m booking each week.
Once your baby arrives (and you’ve had a chance to catch your breath) you just reach out and let me know. Generally newborn sessions are scheduled for between 4-14 days old.
Why are newborn sessions in the first 2 weeks?
This is the age when babies are still very curled up and sleepy. They’re less likely to be distracted by sounds and extra people around, and they haven’t straightened out yet so they’re still very squished up which makes for some super cute photos. But if you’re not fussed about those types of photos you can absolutely do a session when they’re a bit older.
What if I want photos when my baby is a bit older?
That is totally fine! Some people opt to have photos with their baby once they’re smiling or giggling, sitting up or babbling. It’s completely up to you!
Where do we do our session?
My newborn sessions are generally held in your own home. I know it can seem daunting to think about having your house clean and tody when you’ve just brought home a newborn, but please don’t stress! We usually stick to just a handful of spaces and I’m generally able to do a quick shuffle of things to make sure there’s no washing piled in the background. And honestly, I feel like it might be less hassle than trying to pack up your baby (and everything they need) into the car and drive to a studio location.
I also feel like photographing your baby in your home enables us to document things a bit more organically and authentically. Imagine looking back on these photos in 20 years and being able to remember the bassinet you used, the couch that has since retired, the door frame that became the measuring stick for all the kids. There’s just something extra special about having your child’s home documented too.
What if I'd like an outdoor session?
I actually love an outdoor newborn session, but it’s definitely quite different than an in home session. For starters there’s the light to consider, and because my outdoor sessions happen prior to sunset, once the sun goes down time is up. So it’s a little less flexible than an in home session. It’s also impossible to get the same types of photos as an in home session, but if you don’t have your heart set on specific images and you love being outside it can be amazing.Ā
Oh, and weather, because we live in Melbourne. So if you’re due in winter just think through how you and your baby will go in the chilly dusk temperatures.
Do you include siblings?
Of course! In fact, sibling photos might just be some of my absolute favourites! I remember the absolutely heart-melting feeling when I brought home my second baby and watched my toddler love on her. It is definitely worth documenting the earliest moments of the bond that will grow in the years to come!Ā
How long will the session last?
1 – 2 hours just depending on how things flow and how everyone is feeling.Ā
What will you bring?
I have a suitcase filled with beautiful blankets and a few gorgeous outfits for your baby that I usually bring along to newborn sessions for you to puruse. I also have a client wardrobe with dresses (mostly breastfeeding friendly) that you’re welcome to borrow for our session. When you book you’ll receive a link to view the options and you can let me know if there’s a dress you’d like me to bring along.
How much do clients usually spend?
Seperate from your session fee is a collection price. You’ll be able to select which collection once you’ve seen your images, so you can decide based on how much you love your images (hopefully a LOT). Collections start at $350, but most clients spend a total of $800-$1200 with me. If you’d like more details on pricing just complete the form above and you’ll receive access to my price guide.
What if my baby is unsettled?
Babies are unpredictable. So I don’t expect them to sleep the whole time or ‘perform’ perfectly. The beauty of lifestyle photography is that it doesn’t rely on babies being in a deep sleep for poses and costume changes. If baby is crying, you feed your baby, and if you’re comfortable I keeping shooting to capture those moments for you. If baby is awake and looking around, I keep shooting and capture their alertness.
I do a bit of very light posing, but most of your session will be you cuddling, kissing and just generally loving on your little one.

Em is not only an incredible photographer, but she is also a beautiful person. She made the entire process easy, with great communication and the most beautiful results. I would highly recommend Chapter and song photography to anyone wanting some precious family memories
